This year's lecture is entitled:
Cobbett’s England and the Industrial Revolution:
Why the West grew Rich
by Emma Griffin,
Professor of Modern British History at Queen Mary University of London.
Recently President of the Royal Historical Society, Professor Griffin is the author of five books and is best known for her work on the lives of ordinary people in Britain during the Industrial Revolution. She will focus on the changes that occurred in Englaand in the early nineteenth century, the period when Cobbett was at his most active on behalf of the working man.

The Cobbett Society 2026 Annual General Meeting
Saturday 16th May, 11am. Farnham Maltings.
The meeting will also be available on Zoom from 10:45am until around 12:30. Please contact the Society if you wish to receive the link. There will be refreshments afterwards for those attending at the Maltings, concluding at 13:30pm.
Those attending at the Maltings are asked to contact the Cobbett Society by Wednesday 13th May - though please feel free to come even if you haven’t emailed beforehand.
